On Numbers, a feature of American City Business Journals, ranked Austin at No. 1 and Provo, Utah, as No. 2 in the Index. Oklahoma City trailed DFW in the fourth position.
According to On Numbers, DFW got its high ranking because of a mixture of positive indicators. DFW is one of the four markets with jobless rates of 6 percent or less and employment has risen more than 2 percent in the past year, On Numbers said. Home values have increased since 2008 in the area.
On Numbers based its index on an 18-part formula that looks a private sector job growth, unemployment, personal earning, construction and retail activity and housing-price appreciation.
