The citywide celebration of Dallas Arts Week comes to a close this weekend. Though several big art exhibits and performances look forward to their opening night.

Also listed in New York Times' GTT section which lists "quirky, discerning picks for the most interesting things to do around the state," the anticipation for this dual opening of two iconic American painters is bursting at the seams.

Negation of the Universe is Richard Phillips' first and largest solo show in the United States. Expect to see his hyper-real paintings, motion portraits and, of course, his controversial, 40-foot sculpture.

Julian Schnabel's exhibit, An Artist Has a Past (Puffy Clouds and Strong Cocktails) 15 Paintings Over the Last Decade, will be the multi-talented contemporary artist's first show in Texas since the late '80s. 


The duo will also speak at the Dallas Contemporary on Saturday, April 12.

The Dallas Art Fair at the Fashion Industry Gallery caps the final days of Dallas Arts Week with dynamic exhibits from more than 90 national and international galleries.

Eight local Dallas galleries including Galleri Urbane, Ro2 Art and Conduit Gallery are among the presenters showing installations, modern portraits, photography and more.

Opening Night of Scattered by Motionhouse

Saturday, April 12 - 8:00 p.m. 

TITAS presents the Dallas debut of England's world-renowed dance theatre, Motionhouse, and its sensory performance titled Scattered.

Dancers take artistic dimensions to new depths on a curved floor at the Dallas City Performance Hall moving in, on and through stunning digital projections of an imaginative, aquatic world.

Can't attend Saturday night? There's only one other chance this weekend to see this exotic, visually spectacular performance this close to Museum Tower. The final performance is at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 13.

Sunday, April 13

Dallas Arts Week officially ends this Sunday, April 13. The week-long celebration of art and culture in Dallas featured more than 80 events throughout the city and coincided with several major events such as the 20th anniversary of the Deep Ellum Arts Festival, the Dallas International Film Festival and the Dallas Art Fair.
