Summer at the Arboretum is in full swing. Displaying an incredible selection of seasonal plantings, this year’s theme is “Flower Houses: Fairy Tales with a Texas Twist.” At this time, the garden features four topiary houses up to 15 feet tall currently enveloped in red, white and blue flowers. In honor of Memorial Day weekend and our armed forces, the Dallas Arboretum will also have flags and patriotic music in the gardens all weekend long along with free admission all four days for all active duty members and veterans of the United States Military and first responders. Join Carry The Load’s vision to restore the true meaning of Memorial Day by connecting Americans to the sacrifices of our military, law enforcement, firefighters and rescue personnel. The 20-hour walk is dedicated to fallen U.S. servicemen and women, honoring the dead and the true spirit of Memorial Day. Participants can join in the march, which raises money for charity, for a few minutes or the whole 20-plus hours. On a weekend that many spend celebrating or relaxing, it’s important to take the time to remember the people who gave up everything for their country. This is one of the best ways to do it.

Previously showcased on SOLUNA Takes Over: Must See Events at the First Ever International Music and Arts Festival #NearbyMuseumTower, this weekend’s Salute to the Armed Forces is a must see performance. Circling back to this year’s theme, Destination (America), Carry The Load and Jaap van Zweden join forces to create a united front for the inaugural SOLUNA’s closing ceremony. Bringing minds and hearts back to the true significance of Memorial Day, Salute to the Armed Forces will feature a program of patriotic favorites and is certain to be a moving tribute to members of the Armed Forces, veterans, first responders and families. Salute to the Armed Forces will further honor those who have served our country with a piece created by video artist Monte Laster. If you can’t make Salute to the Armed Forces, don’t worry. The Dallas Symphony will performs its annual Memorial Day concert at Flag Pole Hill on Monday at 8:00 p.m. followed by a lively fireworks show.
