Last year, Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport registered 63,421,235 airplane passengers, many flying across oceans and continents. In 1903, there was one airplane passenger in the entire world - he flew for 12 seconds and traveled 120 feet.

The World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth presents two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning David McCullough who will discuss the dynamics and personalities that led to Orville Wright's first brief flight at Kill Devil Hills near Kitty Hawk, N.C. The entertaining McCullough focuses on a topic that takes readers to historical heights in 1903 unbeknown to what would come in aviation. McCullough has been speaking to sold-out audiences across the country about his research and discoveries through writing his current best-seller, The Wright Brothers.

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 21
James Gill - Judy Garland Photo courtesy of Samuel Lynne Galleries
Samuel Lynne Galleries will present the opening reception for artist James Francis Gill’s latest exhibition, When the World Went POP! Instead of merely depicting images from advertisements and the media, Gill uses his works to represent prominent emotions and ideas associated with popular culture. This innovative approach to creation sets him apart from his fellow artists. During his illustrious career, Gill has demonstrated the ability to adapt his style to reflect modern sensibilities, while simultaneously staying true to the fundamental elements of the Pop Art movement.

The paintings in Gill’s upcoming exhibition When the World Went POP! reflect the interplay between realism and abstraction, while simultaneously bringing Pop Art into the present. Over the years, Gill has established his own technique combining mixed media with more traditional paint application. His paintings continue to be rich in the vibrant colors and thought-provoking irony common to the Pop Art movement, but his current process adds a modern awareness to these depictions. In the past, Gill’s contemporaries conceded that his art reflected both qualities of a contemporary consciousness and a classical tradition. His upcoming exhibition continues to be at once relevant and classic in this way.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through January 11, 2016.

Surround Yourself in Excitement

Imagine being able to step out onto your spacious veranda and marvel at the cosmopolitan ambiance of streets filled with Dallasites enjoying the multitude of events #NearbyMuseumTower. Create a custom agenda at a moment’s notice when you live in the heart of the city.

The convenience of strolling just a few blocks to join friends and neighbors as they enjoy a mid-week, after-work drink or taking the Museum Tower car to dinner at the latest addition to the Dallas dining scene, Americano at The Joule.

How about an early morning Pilates session in a studio that opens to a serene Zen garden or a weekend afternoon spent playing bocce ball on your own manicured court?  As the suns sets on the horizon of your balcony, might we suggest an al fresco dinner with family and friends on a beautifully appointed patio?

A NEW POINT OF VIEW

When you opt to go vertical, location remains a paramount concern. You might be leaving your neighborhood behind — or below, as the case may be — but you can still recreate a neighborhood experience, choosing just the right spot and in doing so, creating a new point of view.

Things to consider when selecting your luxury home include:  lighting, views, selecting a corner or center condo — and, of course, which floor you should choose.

“We have found that clients and residents really enjoy the adventure of discovering their perfect view,” said Ilene Christ of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. “Just like choosing the perfect lot in a neighborhood, homeowners want to enjoy what they see when they look out the window or step out onto the balcony.”

From dewy mornings to dreamy, glowing sunsets, floor-to-ceiling windows give you breathtaking views no matter the time of day. Each morning, you lock up and leave, glancing at the skyline for a burst of inspiration as the city begins its day. As the workday winds down and office lights shimmer, the night lights up with lone star colors. Dazzling views of the night sky grace your home daily.

It’s all about perspective: East or West? Your choice depends on whether you are a morning or evening person. High-rise living at Museum Tower is completely customizable. Only you can pick the sky view that sings to your senses.

From any angle, Museum Tower’s spectacular views showcase vibrant, sophisticated living.

CINQ GALLERY PRESENTS THE FINE LINE OPENING RECEPTION
Cinq Gallery in the Dallas Design District presents Rodolfo Choperena’s new solo show, The Fine Line.
Choperena’s work is best described as abstracted photography: representational yet complicated by the obscuring and absenting of the subject. By inducing movement and manually manipulating subjects and light sources, Choperena provokes a figurative tableau into abstraction. Every shot, every video, is the evidence of a performance. The acts of montage and manipulation are performed in camera, and movement is his primary performative act. By maneuvering the camera’s placement, aperture and exposure settings in relation to color fields, landscapes, light sources, precipitation and seascapes, the artist’s work pushes the boundaries of perception, creating organic, lyrical free forms. The resultant images are the reinterpretation of the original subject. Striations shift in varying intervals and rhythms, alternately compressing and expanding positive and negative space. However obscured, each composition retains a firm representational vantage point—host to personal objects and scenario manipulations. Each image is a direct reflection of his ever-changing environment.

Thursday Evenings at Museum Tower

Imagine returning to Love Field after a business trip and having your bags taken from the Museum Tower car to your private residence as you head straight to Happy Hour. At the Terrace Lounge, your favorite bartender is already pouring your signature drink while you are chatting with friends and neighbors, sharing recent adventures.

It must be Thursday evening at Museum Tower.

Each week, as the business day comes to a close, residents and their friends gather for what has now become a “neighborhood” tradition—an incredible happy hour with special cocktails, delicious food and lively music all overlooking beautiful green space at Museum Tower’s Terrace Lounge.

“It’s become a standing appointment for many of our residents,” says Tanya Mendenhall, Director of Resident Relations. “It’s such a fun way to wind down the week and catch up with neighbors. We usually have over 30 residents and guests come by.”

Events like Dom Pérignon tastings and demonstrations by award-winning chefs, such as Dean Fearing and Kent Rathbun, consistently cycle through the Museum Tower social calendar.

In this premier residence located in the heart of Dallas’ vibrant city center, your home extends beyond four walls to include beautifully designed gathering spaces where neighbors meet for a pre-theatre cocktail or a glamorous charity auction.

“Our residents expect everything to be exciting and wonderful,” says Mendenhall. “It’s our pleasure to create events where they can truly enjoy life in this incredible setting.”

Located at 1918 Olive Street, Museum Tower invites you to experience the extraordinary. Visit museumtowerdallas.com for information on elevated living in the heart of Dallas.

The Terrace Lounge at Museum Tower welcomes residents and their guests each Thursday for a fantastic Happy Hour.
